Decoding Surfaces: VitrA Tiles Presents The Code and a New Design Vocabulary at Cersaie

At Cersaie 2026, VitrA Tiles revealed The Code concept and its latest developments to specialists from across the building and interiors sector, framing everything through its Material Intelligence philosophy.

Bologna, Italy: from 21 to 25 September, VitrA Tiles took part in Cersaie 2026, the international showcase for ceramic tiles and bathroom furnishings held in Bologna, Italy, welcoming architects, designers, clients and sector specialists to its exhibition space. With a stand conceived around the Material Intelligence concept, VitrA Tiles presented its collections for 2027 along with fresh innovations.

“Every material has a code. Material Intelligence deciphers it.” This idea anchors the design philosophy of VitrA Tiles, which reimagines materials found in nature by uniting research, cutting-edge technology and design know-how. Building on the visual and technical possibilities that nature offers, VitrA Tiles turns these materials into distinctive surfaces that bring new inspiration to contemporary architecture and spatial design.

A Trio of Design Vocabularies

Through The Code concept, three design languages give form to the Resincode, Geocode and Metacode collections, which visitors to Cersaie can explore on the VitrA Tiles stand.

Resincode takes its cue from the porous, mineral-laden texture of natural concrete, with organic transitions and layered effects across the surface, bringing a minimal, balanced and sophisticated finish to contemporary interior schemes. Geocode draws on limestone, marble, quartzite and gneiss of Spanish origin, translating the varied geological legacy of natural stone onto ceramic surfaces with a contemporary reading, and is offered in four separate surface typologies, namely Alba, Imperio, Rio and Merano. Metacode, available in three separate finishes in tones of gold, iron and copper, transfers the gentle tonal shifts and soft sheen of patinated metal onto ceramic surfaces, pairing an industrial character with refined elegance.

Innovations in Surface Technology

Alongside the new collections, VitrA Tiles also put the V-Flex and V-Tone innovations on display at Cersaie 2026.

Driven by Välinge’s Ceraloc® locking technology, V-Flex is an adhesive-free approach to laying tiles. Its specially engineered edge profiles allow the tiles to be joined mechanically, which, in contrast to traditional bonded installations, can make fitting up to five times quicker. The system ensures accurate alignment, uniform grout lines and a crisp, professional result. When necessary, single tiles can be lifted out and swapped, a considerable benefit that streamlines upkeep and repair work. Acoustic comfort is a further advantage. V-Flex is suited to offices, hotels, showrooms, retail stores and store chains, as well as commercial spaces and educational facilities.

Addressing shade variation in ceramic production, V-Tone preserves colour uniformity and design coherence from one surface to the next. VitrA Tiles is still in the process of integrating V-Tone technology into its production lines.
